Church of the Highlands did an exemplary job rolling out Smart Giving to receive gifts through text. They showed the video above in all their services and across campuses. Church of the Highlands generously allowed us to share the video as a resources for other churches to use.
A few specific things they did really well:
- Timing of rollout: As referenced in the video, Church of the Highlands holds their Legacy offering on December 14th. By introducing Smart Giving the week before, they helped familiarize people with a new and easy way they could participate in the offering, before the Legacy offering took place.
- Personal touch: The video starts with an introduction from David Russell and an explanation of his role at the church. Although it may seem obvious, this is an important step. Asking someone from the church to make the announcement and offer their personal approval of the system helps people feel comfortable and confident using Smart Giving
- Inform of the refund feature: David was sure to let everyone know how they can refund a gift in case of a mistake. This is another important way to make first time users feel comfortable givng via Smart Giving.
- Supporting website instructions: finally, they supported all this with excellent documentation on their website. It’s important to work this new mobile giving option into the same places you talk about all your other giving options. Doing this reminds your congregations that the church fully supports this new method.
